When you first join the troop, you may need a few months to gather the necessary supplies to fully outfit your Scout. Please talk to the Scoutmaster about borrowing troop supplies, or find a buddy to help you. The following personal equipment is required of each Scout:
“CLASS A” Scout Field Activity uniform: official BSA shirt (affixed with required patches in the appropriate locations) and olive-colored pants/shorts/skorts, BSA neckerchief, olive scout socks. This uniform will be worn for all meetings, travel to/from some outings and camps, Courts of Honor, Boards of Review, flag ceremonies, Council-approved fund-raising such as popcorn sales, and some outings (dinners at summer camp, etc).
Optional but encouraged: BSA hat, scout belt, neckerchief slide.
“CLASS B” activity uniform: any scout shirt (from the troop, or from a camporee, for example) plus olive-colored BSA pants/shorts/skorts. If a scouting shirt is not available, please wear neutral or “generic” clothing – no provocative shirts, sports teams, concert t-shirts, etc. This outfit is typically worn at summer camps, outdoor activities, service projects, etc.
Swim gear must be modest and provide appropriate coverage. For girls and women, a tankini or athletic one-piece work well.
Eventually, your Scout will need: hiking boots, a hiking backpack, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, packable pillow, mess kit with utensils, personal propane stove (“Pocket Rocket” or JetBoil type), 1- or 2-person tent, rainsuit (not ponchos). The suggested equipment list for camping is available from the Scoutmaster or in the Scout handbook. Every effort should be made by parents to assist the Scout in obtaining the proper equipment necessary for participation in troop outings and camping trips – these items make great gifts! Please feel free to ask the leaders for assistance or recommendations regarding camping equipment.
All equipment (including clothing) should be marked with the Scout’s name.
