We are a Scouts BSA troop with female youth members, and as such, BSA requires that at least one female registered leader over age 21 at all outings. Due to YPT, our troop prefers that at least two women accompany the troop, so that in the case that one must leave, the Troop can still continue the outing.
All adults accompanying the troop on outings must be registered members, which includes YPT training. Our troop prefers that adults on trips have basic leader training (including CPR and FA). At least one member will have this training when accompanying the Scouts. Two-deep guidelines must be followed; the only exception is when driving a car of Scouts – one adult will suffice provided there is more than one Scout in the car.
We appreciate your time and willingness to volunteer! Sometimes troops can be overwhelmed with enthusiastic parents who want to get in on the fun of Scouting with their child. We have established a few guidelines for chaperones. There may be times our troop will need 4+ adults to transport Scouts and gear. There may be times when drivers are needed for drop-off or pick-up only, but not requested to stay at camp. We will always meet the minimum chaperones required for events; however in our experience, we know that when too many well-meaning parents attend functions with their Scouts, it can start to become a detraction from the Scout’s personal experience and growth. As such, the Scoutmaster reserves the right to limit adult chaperones on trips. Also, adults attending are expected to serve in the capacity of leaders, not parents. Please demonstrate “Scout spirit” and work with the Scoutmaster team as needed to provide leadership to all Scouts. We will do our best to rotate volunteers where appropriate and give parents a chance to attend when needed. You may be responsible for event fees, meals, and fuel costs when volunteering.
