“If it’s not fun, it’s not Scouting!” Some of our activities may include:
- Monthly outdoor activities
- Periodic community service
- Weeklong summer camp
- ½ week winter camp
- Caving, climbing, skiing, canoeing and rafting
- Visits to state parks and historic sites
- Watersports merit badge weekend
- Council or District camporees
- Scout Show (April)
- National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
- National high adventure bases (there are four)
- National and World Jamborees (held every four years)
Members are invited to join the members-only website Scoutbook.com for access to the complete calendar of activities. This is where we track RSVPs as well as advancement details, contact information, and more. Please make plans to attend the annual planning meeting and feel free to make suggestions of activities for the troop.
It is our aim to plan and raise funds to attend as many of these adventures as our Scouts show interest in – based on their age and abilities. Some camps and activities are limited to higher ranks or ages for safety reasons, so there are always fresh new options even for higher-ranking Scouts – typically ages 14 and older. Examples include the four national high adventure bases (The Summit Bechtel Reserve in WV, Sea Base in FL, Philmont in NM, and Northern Tier in MN/Canada).
Note that there is a Camping Log and Service Log located in the back of the Scout Handbook; scouts should keep these populated to use as a reference for advancement requirements.
